The Well Cloth’d Way

  • Donation Strategy

In the homes of many Americans, lies a closet excess of un or lightly used clothing, a bathroom full of untouched product, and a stack of forgotten shoe boxes. By strategically placing donation bins and coordinating home pick ups, we are able to collect high-quality donations without any hassle to our donators. We personally sort through all donations to ensure our recipients are delivered an individualized care package suited to meet any wardrobe or toiletry need. Well Cloth’d partners directly with human services providers, such as CAMBA and Fedcap’s Women’s Project, to ensure our packages go directly to in-need communities.

  • Sustainability

"No one sets out to dump half their body weight in clothing into landfills each year, presumably, but somehow it still happens" - Nicholas Gilmore trainings, financial literacy, and health and emotional support resources. Each year nearly 10.5 million tons of recyclable textiles are thrown into landfills across the United States. Well Cloth'd redirects approximately 300 pounds quarterly to new owners. We take the mystery out of donating through events like our "Baggin’ Brunch", Wellness Days, and community pop-up shops where donors have the unique opportunity to not only see where their clothing, money, and time go but to offer even more support through an listening ear, a shared story, helpful advice, or possibly a job opportunity for our recipients. With our focus on overall wellness, we partner with experts to offer job readiness.

Our hope is to provide our beneficiaries with the clothing and toiletries they need to confidently take the next steps toward bettering their lives.

  • Through word of mouth and the power of social media we direct donations to our collection bins placed throughout Brooklyn.

We consider our brand name as twofold; Well and Clothed. We understand that making a life transition requires support for both one's physical and mental well-being. As we embrace our niche regarding clothing, we continue to expand with our notion of overall wellness.

Who We Are

Well Cloth'd is a Black women-founded, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to take the mystery out of donating. By connecting generous individuals to in-need populations, Well Cloth’d ensures recipients receive high-quality donations in two ways. We organize quarterly free pop-up shops and create personalized care packages tailored to meet individual needs.

Our organization’s founders are two lifelong friends, Leetah McGee and Jenne Richardson, who have long had a passion for community service, fashion, and wellness. In the fall of 2017, they began to brainstorm ways to marry these interests and support their community while doing so, and so Well Cloth'd was born. In 2020 the Well Cloth’d team expanded by adding another lifelong friend, Maya Shelton, as the Director of Partnerships.

Well Cloth’d works to empower and support individuals and families in need as they strive to better themselves and their lives. Our mission is to promote compassion, understanding, and total wellness amongst those we serve and our community as a whole.

I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you.
